What is "Komon"?(社名の由来)

During the Edo Period, (1603-1867), people of the Edo Prefecture - present day Tokyo - used to wear Kimono, a traditional Japanese garment. Back in that time, however, the Daimyo, or Lord, forbid kimono with large, ornate patterns. Instead, Daimyo ordered Kimono craftsmen to make intricate, tiny patterns that were indecipherable from a distance; where only once you got closer was the beauty and artistry apparent.
This kind of pattern was called "Edo-komon"; and to make it was much more difficult.
Just like the finely-elaborate pattern of "Edo-Komon", the small, island country of Japan is filled with many talented craftsmen and women;  to find them, all you have to do is look closely.
This is the mission of Komon: to help the whole world discover cultural, handmade Japanese products.
  • Introducing the beauty of Japanese craft

Japan is a country created by people who came from mainland China and inherited the culture from Asia. However, due to the unique environment of being an island nation, Japan has developed a unique culture within the islands. Komon will introduce the beauty of traditional crafts that have developed in such an environment and have been handed down to the present day.

  • Connect your daily life with Japanese craft

You can change the vessel according to the atmosphere of each dish, or take your time to boil water in an iron kettle and drink tea on a cold day. In today's world where everything is easy, convenient and simple, tableware and cutlery that allow you to feel nature in your busy days will add color to your daily life.

  • supporting traditional crafts for Sustainability

There are many traditional crafts in Japan that have coexisted with nature. For example, Japanese Bincho charcoal, which is said to be the best charcoal in Japan, is planted at the same time as felling trees to secure materials so that the mountains do not die. Komon will continue to support Japanese crafts that use natural materials while thinking about the future of the earth.

  • Komon Japan founder

The birth of Komon(Komon

The founder, Yuka Nakanisih, was born and raised in Chiba Prefecture in Japan and was familiar with Japanese culture such as martial arts; Kendo and Kyudo from an early age. Her inquisitive nature Going to Canada to study language was a turning point in her life.
It was a very stimulating experience for her to spend time and share the culture with the people from various countries in Canada. After came back from Canada she started work at the Ryokan which is Japanese Hot spring hotel , and she welcoming the customer with Japanese crafts furnitures, dishes, cups and food, and known Japanese culture more deeply.
On the other hand, she noticed that very few people had beautiful real Japanese crafts, and the most of the Japanese products that people had were mass-produced. While mass production and production of uniform products are spreading all over the world, the demand for craft products are gradually decreasing. As a craftsman running a small business in Japan, they do not know how to sell to the abroad, even if they want to provide it to people overseas so that more people can use it and support them.
Komon started in 2021 with the desire to have more people around the world know and use the real Japanese culture and traditional crafts.
