TAMAHAGANE DOG TAG
ACCESSORIES INSPIRED BY JAPANESE SWORD
Crafted from Tamahagane steel—once destined to become a Japanese sword—each tag is shaped from an actual sword plate and hand-finished with care. No two are the same; each piece carries its own character and individuality.
Polished with precision, these tags are modern artifacts of a timeless craft—rare accessories that embody the soul and heritage of Japanese craftsmanship.

TAMAHAGANE DOG TAGS: A Unique Piece of the Blade-Making Tradition
Crafted from Tamahagane, the traditional high-carbon steel used in the forging of Japanese swords, each dog tag is made from the same raw plates used by swordsmiths in the early stages of blade creation. These plates are often discarded after initial shaping, but here they are transformed into wearable objects that preserve the essence of the craft.
Each tag bears a unique Hamon (temper line with the clay)—the beautiful, wave-like pattern created during sword heat treatment with each smith's special recipe of the clay —and is engraved with the swordsmith's name as a mark of its origin. Because no two steel plates are the same, each dog tag carries its own distinctive look, texture, and story. These are not mass-produced accessories, but one-of-a-kind objects—functional pieces of art you can wear and carry with you.

Refined by Sword Polishing Tradition, Reimagined for Everyday Wear
The surface of each dog tag is carefully polished using techniques derived from traditional Japanese sword polishing. This process enhances the natural beauty of the steel, bringing out its grain, character, and the subtle shimmer of its temper line.
This line of Dog Tags was born from the ideas and craftsmanship of Ivan Fonseca—a knife sharpener based in Kyoto Japan and a specialist in both kitchen knives and Japanese swords. Combining deep respect for the swordmaking tradition with a contemporary design sensibility, Ivan has created an accessory that bridges history and modern life. These tags are a quiet celebration of detail, material, and mastery.
