Okuda simply called his product color "white" and "black". Both of them use sticky clay, and Okuda told that he is particular about using clay that is not too rough, not too powdery, and has moderate roughness from Shigaraki's clay shop. Many of these rough clay items in Japan are heavier, but I was surprised when i picked up his ceramics that they were lighter than I expected.

Binchotan is the highest quality of charcoal made with natural wood in Japan. There is more convenience charcoal or Binchotan made outside of Japan are becoming used more, those made in Japan are renowned for their high quality. They are additive-free and do not produce any strange smells or smoke. Each piece is cut by hand using a chainsaw from trees grown locally, and then carefully fired in a kiln. This traditional production process results in a superior product, which has been used it in Japanese restaurants not only in Japan but also around the world.
