Inspired by the traditional Mekuginuki used to remove the wooden pins from a Japanese sword’s Shirasaya or handle, this piece is crafted in an original form using durable soot-bamboo (Susudake).
The exterior is polished to highlight the natural texture, while the inside features Komon’s original family-crest logo.
Susudake is bamboo that has aged for decades in the smoke of traditional Japanese hearths, gaining exceptional strength, a deep natural color, and unique variations—no two pieces are alike.
Each mekuginuki is handmade and finely polished by craftsmen at a long-established bamboo craft company in Kyoto. The surface is finished with natural beeswax to preserve its authentic character.
