OVERVIEW

This tantō was created in the style of the mid-Kamakura period.

The jihada is a well-forged ko-mokume, presenting a tight and even surface.
The hamon is based on a suguha, distinguished by the presence of a nijūba, which introduces refinement and prevents the composition from appearing overly plain.
The bōshi shows tobiyaki; although not intentionally produced during forging, it is appreciated by Kunihira, as a natural and favorable feature.

The carving on the blade is derived from a classical Chinese phrase expressing the idea that a family which accumulates good deeds will see its virtue extend to future generations, emphasizing the importance of continued effort over time.
The design evokes tenkoku (seal engraving); rather than being stamped, each character is individually carved. A patinating agent has been applied to the carved areas to induce controlled oxidation, creating a distinctive coloration reminiscent of a seal impression.
